As told by Connie Alvarez, Branch Manager
*Meghan, age 9, has been a member of the Club since she was five years old. She loves participating in the afterschool programs, but most importantly, she loves receiving the healthy snacks from the snack program. One day, a staff member noticed Melanie grabbing additional snacks from the goodie box. She asked Meghan, "Why are you grabbing so many snacks?" Meghan replied, "Because there's a lot of people in my house and we don't have a lot of food." The staff recommended Melanie and her siblings be enrolled in the "Blessings in a Backpack" program offered at the Club, which provides food for children on the weekends.
The family received their three food backpacks on Friday. The bags were full of cereal, pasta, juice and snacks. When Meghan arrived to the club on Monday, she couldn't contain her excitement. She said, "We had so much food this weekend! We all had cereal to eat while we watched cartoons and my mom cooked the pasta for us. This was the first time we all had something to eat. I love that the Boys & Girls Club feeds us. Not just during school, but on the weekends too."
This is the way the club is making a difference in a child's life.
