Tears of Joy Over Homework

During homework time, Cindy*, age 7, was found crying at her desk because she was unable to read or understand her homework instructions. Cindy barely spoke English as her and her parents are Vietnamese do not speak English fluently. Staff member, Joe, told Cindy that they will help her with the homework if she sings along to the daily Club Assembly songs. Eight weeks later Cindy was found again crying at her desk, but this time with joy because she can read her homework, understands and can speak English. It was the extra tutoring and the daily practice of singing that helped her reach her goal.
