Dozens of kids with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego painted hurtful words on a "crush car" that will be used in the Advance Parts Monster Jam at Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday.

The project allowed kids to paint on a car that would be smashed by a 10,000 pound monster truck "Grave Digger" during Saturday's event.

The club in Encanto welcomed Monster Truck driver Carl VanHorn Thursday afternoon to help with their anti-bullying curriculum.

"If you’re the parent of the kid who is doing the bullying, you need to realize what they’re doing and try to correct it,” VanHorn said. "Bullying can really shape a kids life in the wrong direction.”

The kids painted names they’ve been called and hurtful words bullies might use.

Arianna Michel, 8, painted "ugly” in yellow paint on the hood saying "people always call me that.”

Boys & Girls Club staff members said they hope the project will help the kids stop bullying in their schools before it becomes a bigger problem.

Organizers said they hope it will help the children feel more comfortable talking about bullying.

"Some of the teasing is so covert that it’s difficult to see. Kids have a tough time trusting someone to tell them about it,” Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego Vice President Brandon Horrocks said.
