Frozen Food Foundation Spotlights Healthy, Active Living at San Diego 5K Fun Run & Walk Presented by Green Giant

The Frozen Food Foundation will highlight how frozen foods help youth and adults maintain a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle at the 5K Fun Run & Walk presented by Green Giant® on Feb. 19 in San Diego.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and the Network for a Healthy California—Children’s Power Play! Campaign are partnering with the Foundation to encourage participation by area youth. The event’s national and community partners help the Foundation connect with people of all ages in the places where they live, work and play.

"The Frozen Food Foundation is proud to showcase the frozen food community’s continuing commitment to healthy lifestyles. This event is representative of our work with respected community organizations to promote improved nutrition and increased physical activity for all Americans,” said Foundation President Kraig R. Naasz.

"Green Giant proudly supports the work of the Frozen Food Foundation to promote the benefits of frozen foods, and especially the nutritional value of frozen fruits and vegetables,” said Yumi Clevenger-Lee, Green Giant® marketing manager.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego Director of Strategic Partnerships Tesha Young adds, "The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego is committed to improving the outlook for youth by encouraging a healthy lifestyle. We are proud to partner with the Frozen Food Foundation in promoting the 5K Fun Run & Walk among our members.”

The 5K Fun Run & Walk was launched in 2008 to promote increased physical activity and healthier eating habits of Americans, especially as a means of reversing growing obesity rates nationwide. Through their support of the 5K, frozen food producers are demonstrating the value of pairing physical activity with good-for-you food products that are convenient, tasty and wholesome.

Held in conjunction with the American Frozen Food Institute Frozen Food Convention, the 5K will take place Sunday, Feb. 19, along the boardwalk behind the Manchester Grand Hyatt near Seaport Village. Registration for the event is $20 for adults and free for youth under 18. Race participants will receive a t-shirt and sport bag with frozen food coupons. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishing males and females. Registration is now open to the public at www.FrozenFoodFacts.org/5K. Participants must be registered by Feb. 13 to be guaranteed a t-shirt and sport bag.

The Frozen Food Foundation thanks 5K sponsors Green Giant®, Kashi® and Sargento®, as well as community partners the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, Network for a Healthy California—Children’s Power Play! Campaign and the Produce for Better Health Foundation.
