BEAR VALLEY YOUTH OF THE YEAR - 2008
Caitlin DeMoss
Caitlin is a very busy individual. At school, she is involved with the yearbook and is an avid poet. Her family has a band called the Pierced Scarlet in which she plays bass and does the vocals. Despite all of this, she still finds time to be active in club activities. She attended Leadership Camp this year; she is always focused during Power Hour and is continually lending a hand to help others. Caitlin is an amazing individual; she is always there to help out or just to give you a smile. Her energy and enthusiasm is a pleasure to have around and rubs off on the other students.

DEL DIOS YOUTH OF THE YEAR - 2008
Claribel Solis
Claribel is a devoted student. She is always working hard to get good grades, which has earned her a spot on both the Honor Roll and the Perfect Attendance list. Through X-Track, Claribel participates in the High School Prep Club and the Junior Leader program. She was selected for this honor because she has the ability to make anyone smile. She is a friend to all her fellow students. No matter how hard a day she is having, she will take the time to ask someone who looks down how their day is, then do her best to brighten it. Claribel never has a mean thing to say and is a model citizen of X-Track.

HIDDEN VALLEY NEWS

Junior Leaders - Tuesdays and Thursdays, Room 40. Junior leaders meet to enjoy a snack and brainstorm ideas for the program. They then put on their Junior Leader t-shirts and help staff or fellow students for the rest of the day.

Planet Health - Wednesdays, Room 40. Members learn about healthy eating habits, fitness, goal setting, and hygene.

HIDDEN VALLEY YOUTH OF THE YEAR - 2008
Vanesa Saavedra
Vanesa is actively involved in both school and club activities. She loves sports, and represented Hidden Valley as a basketball and volleyball player in the X-Track sports leagues. Vanesa is also active in AVID, ASB and National Junior Honor Society. She has been a part of the Junior Leader program, Teen Talk, and Smart Moves. Vanesa also takes the time to tutor other students during Power Hour. Though she excels in academics and is a very talented athlete, Vanesa doesn’t let it go to her head. She is always smiling and upbeat, and treats everyone with respect.

MISSION YOUTH OF THE YEAR - 2008
Carlos Alvarado
Carlos is very active in his school. He is a committee member of ASB, where he helps plan special events. He also represents his school by playing for their soccer team. Soccer is one of his favorite activities and he can usually be found playing goalie. Through X-Track, Carlos has participated in both Smart Moves and Junior Leaders. He also helps plan and run outside activities. Staff and members trust and depend on Carlos. If he says he will do something, he always follows through. He is respectful and friendly to everyone around him.

Details: a fun craft to welcome Labor Day.

Patriot Day

Location: pavilion and upper grass field
Details: Members wearing patriotic colors receive a prize, and participate in a yankee doodle relay.

RINCON YOUTH OF THE YEAR - 2008
Jocelyn Sarasua
Jocelyn plays clarinet in the school band and is very active in dancing. She does ballet, tap, jazz, flamenco and belly dancing. Jocelyn is currently the Junior Leaders’ president. She attended the leadership camp in Julian and has been involved in Smart Moves, Planet Health, and indoor soccer. Jocelyn started X-Track as a quiet, shy girl, and now she has grown into an intelligent, confident outspoken young lady! Whenever a staff or other member need her help she never says “no.” Although she may be small, she has a huge personality.
