*Roberto, age 10, didn’t want to eat lunch at the Payne Family Branch in National City and would ask his mother to bring him lunch. His mother said, “Roberto doesn’t like the food, because he said it’s too healthy.”
The staff encouraged Roberto to give it a try and sample the food. The staff said, “If you don’t like it, you don’t have to eat it, but eat the things you do like.” Roberto picked up the food and said, “I’m only going to eat the oranges.” As soon as Roberto finished the oranges, he was sampling the pasta. To his surprise, he really liked it. He said, “This isn’t as bad as I thought. It’s actually pretty good and taste great. I think I’ll tell my mom not to bring me lunch anymore.”
Two weeks later, Roberto’s mother came to tell us about his experience. She said, “Roberto told me not to bring lunch because he loved the food. He said it was healthier than school lunches. I wish he had this at school. His favorite thing to eat was the chicken pasta. He even asked if we could make it at home.”
