Fall 2020 School Year Programming

We know that schools starting the year with virtual learning poses a challenge for working families.
In response to the distance learning plans that local school districts have implemented, we have created the
PACE (Pathways to Academic and Creative Excellence) Program.

PACE is an all-day program that allows staff to help members with their distance learning activities in the morning while engaging in traditional Club activities in the afternoon.

Hours at Clairemont, Conrad Prebys Escondido, and 4S Ranch are 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Hours at Bronner are 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

General Precautions:
  • Parents are not allowed in the Club.
  • Members must have their temperature taken and answer wellness questions before entering the building.
  • Social distancing will be maintained.
  • Face masks are required for all staff and parents. Please see your branch's Registration Packet for information on face mask requirements for children.
  • Routine hand washing is required.
  • Group sizes are limited. Staff and members from different groups will not mix throughout the day.
  • Staff cleans and disinfects throughout the day.

Parent Expectations:
  • Parents are asked to support the Club in providing a safe space for our members and staff by informing the Club of any changes to their child's health or community exposure. If a child exhibits any symptoms of fever, runny nose, coughing, or shortness of breath, parents are asked to keep them home until their symptoms have subsided for 72 hours without the assistance of medications.
  • Parents must walk their child(ren) to the front door for check-in each day and must answer wellness check questions.
  • Members will be turned away and/or sent home if they do not pass the wellness check or if they begin exhibiting any signs of illness at the Club.
Member Expectations:
  • Members participating in the program are expected to follow all Club policies & CDC recommendations.
  • Members who show disregard for Club policies or exhibit intentional disruptive behavior may be asked to leave the program. Parents should talk with their children to reinforce the importance of compliance and safety.
  • Members are asked to leave all personal items that are not needed for school work at home.

The above safety precautions and expectations are not all-inclusive. Please see the Registration Packet for more detailed information.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

Staff have developed program plans that are fun while providing academic support and meeting the current safety recommendations for no contact and social distancing.

Academic Support:
During the morning portion of the program, staff assist members with their distance learning activities.
  • Members must have the ability to work independently and not disturb others.
  • Members receive tutoring and other academic assistance from trained, professional staff, as needed.
  • Electronic Devices:
    • While some computers are available at our sites, we do not have enough for all members. Members are encouraged to bring their tablets or laptops with them, in addition to their own earphones.
      • Tablets/laptops should be in cases and should be clearly marked with the member's name.
      • Electronic devices may only be used for virtual learning activities.
      • Members are not allowed to use their personal devices in the afternoon.

Club Activities:
During the afternoon portion of the program, members transition to traditional Club activities.

As of right now, there are no field trips, cooking projects, swimming, or activities that bring members into close contact with one another. If this changes, parents will be notified in advance.

Though our programs are modified this year, there are still a variety of activities, including (not limited to):
  • Arts & crafts
  • Literacy
  • STEM
  • Individual physical activities
*Members each receive their own supply kit (crayons, markers, pencils, glue stick, etc.) to reduce sharing.

**Please see your branch's Registration Packet for information on food and water.
