Danny Sherlock, Chief Executive Officer, Honored for Helping Area Youth Achieve Great Futures; 
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego Received $20,000 Financial Grant

November 2017 - Danny Sherlock, of San Diego, Calif., has been named a 2017 Maytag Dependable Leader Award winner for his demonstrated dedication to keeping youth on the path to achieve great futures. The award recognizes Boys & Girls Club staff and volunteers who are committed to making a difference as dependable and exceptional role models.  


Through a national partnership, Maytag brand and Boys & Girls Clubs of America selected Sherlock as one of 10 winners nationwide to receive this year’s distinction, which includes a $20,000 financial grant for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. The grant will be used to provide families in the community with scholarships to cover Club enrollment costs. Sherlock was nominated for the award by Michelle Malin, Vice President for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego.

“Danny is a man of integrity and leads by example,” said Malin. “As CEO of one of the largest Boys & Girls Club organizations in the country, Danny is regularly faced with making difficult decisions. Consistently and without hesitation, he chooses the path that will best serve the kids in the community and set them up for great futures. He is humble and most definitely a dependable leader.” 

For more than four decades, Sherlock has provided leadership and upward direction for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. The Greater San Diego area is home to 19 Club sites to date, and Sherlock is actively involved in making each location a safe environment for young people to learn and grow into responsible and caring citizens. Over the years, Sherlock has overseen fundraising and construction of 15 Boys & Girls Club facilities, including gymnasiums, swimming pools, soccer fields as well as Teen Centers for Club members ages 13 to 18. Each of these facilities exposes youth to healthy lifestyles, character development, and academia.

Furthermore, Sherlock serves on several national committees as a consultant for Boys & Girls Clubs of America to ensure communities nationwide have access to Boys & Girls Clubs. He has also been active in the community by serving in leadership positions with the Carlsbad Unified School District, North County Philanthropy Council, Rotary Clubs in Carlsbad and Escondido, University of San Diego’s Nonprofit Leadership & Management Program and the Notre Dame Club of San Diego
“Danny’s selfless commitment to youth in the San Diego community is remarkable, and there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to help motivate these kids to reach their full potential,” continued Malin.

Since 2010, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Maytag brand have presented nearly 100 Boys & Girls Clubs professionals with a Maytag Dependable Leader Award and $20,000 financial grant. Maytag brand plays an intricate part in making sure Boys & Girls Club members have opportunities to explore their passions. Throughout the partnership, Maytag brand has provided more than $7 million to help deserving youth reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
