On a beautiful September evening overlooking the San Diego Bay, supporters, partners, and community leaders gathered at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego’s signature gala, An Evening of Changing Lives. This year’s theme, Dream Big, set the tone for a night dedicated to celebrating the limitless potential of youth and the powerful community that helps make those dreams possible.
For nearly 85 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego has served as a cornerstone of youth development across the region. Today, the organization reaches more than 21,000 children at 22 Club locations, providing safe spaces, supportive mentors, and life-enriching programs that help young people thrive. Throughout the evening, guests were reminded of the real impact of that work through inspiring stories from Club youth and alumni who shared how the Club helped them discover their passions, build confidence, and pursue their dreams.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Todd Gutschow Lifetime Leadership Award to L. Robert (Bob) Payne, recognizing his extraordinary commitment to youth and the San Diego community. A respected philanthropist and civic leader, Bob Payne’s visionary support has made a lasting impact on the organization and continues to inspire others to invest in the next generation.
Guests enjoyed a memorable evening that included a gourmet dinner, lively entertainment by The Mighty Untouchables, and exciting live and silent auctions. Most importantly, the event brought together a community united around a shared purpose: ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
